The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had a devastating impact on artistic communities worldwide, particularly those reliant on tourism for economic survival. In Uganda, artisanal communities were severely affected. With the tourism industry shut down, these communities faced significant income losses. Craft items remained stagnant in craft villages, making it difficult to market and sell handicrafts. Sourcing raw materials also became challenging due to travel restrictions imposed by the lockdown. Two years later, as lockdown measures eased, the focus shifted to recovery. However, re-establishing market access for artists and designers presented a significant challenge.
