Who are Uganda’s Finest Art and Fashion Personalities?

Uganda’s creative industry boasts of a young and growing fashion and art industry filled with numerous emerging artisans and fashion designers. These creatives are supporting a number of other sectors including the music , film, education , banking and the tourism sector.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had a devastating impact on artistic communities worldwide, particularly those reliant on tourism for economic survival. In Uganda, artisanal communities were severely affected. With the tourism industry shut down, these communities faced significant income losses. Craft items remained stagnant in craft villages, making it difficult to market and sell handicrafts. Sourcing raw materials also became challenging due to travel restrictions imposed by the lockdown.

Two years later, as lockdown measures eased, the focus shifted to recovery. However, re-establishing market access for artists and designers presented a significant challenge. Recognizing this need, we introduced the Afri Art and Fashion Show to revitalize the Ugandan art and fashion industry through highlighting and celebrating the artisans, creatives and fashion designers who needed a platform to showcase their designs globally.

After having succesfully held the past three seasons, we are excited to move into the fourth season with more impactful activites including Profiling of the 120 afri art and fashion personalities in Uganda.  We created this initiative to celebrate Uganda’s finest fashion and art creatives, diversity, innovation, and the enduring spirit of cultural expression. Our desire is to see our local designers shining on a global stage and thats why we created this opportunity.

The 120 Afri Art and Fashion Personalities Project

The “120 Afri Art and Fashion Personalities” project is a precursor to the main Afri Art and Fashion Show scheduled for August 23, 2025.
